iTeam members organize and coordinate their work!

iTeam Project List on white board March 2009iTeams are using a project-based approach to learning and support. Using the TechYES materials, students are identifying projects and working on them collaboratively. The project-based approach requires good communication and collaboration among iTeam members, advisor, clients, and the community. The MAM iTeam meets in the Media Center which has a Smartboard and a white board.

Students used the white board to record projects and project members. This initiative to self-organize is an important step in the development of sustainable iTeam activity. Derrick started the list in a one-to-one meeting with the iTeams Advisor; the next day, he and other iTeam members added to the list during a member-directed meeting. We preserve evidence of this step here as part of our process to document our development. Since we share the use of this room with other groups at the middle school, we need a place to preserve the intent of the record keeping but which won't be lost when others need to use the white board.

Let's capture the ideas on the white board in a wiki page that will preserve our work and allow us to revise and improve the list: Project List

A few weeks ago, I tried to use iPhoto to capture an image discovered that it provides a mirror image of its field of view. As a user you see the image as if the screen were a mirror. Since that is how we usually see our selves, it makes sense as an interface design. Unfortunately, that makes capturing text a problem. Today, I discovered the "Flip photo" item in the "Edit" menu. This improves the legibility of the text on this page because the cell phone camera did not capture a good image at the light level in the lab.

When members arrive this morning, I invited them to tell me more about the origin and goals of the project list on the white board. They elaborated several of the same concerns that had motivated my work this morning. They were also concerned about preservation of their work on an erasable medium and went across the hall to the library to borrow a digital camera to try to capture their work in a more permanent medium. They reported that the digital camera either did not work properly or that they still need to learn more about operating it.
